Knitting: Dwarf helmet and beard

This was a fun project.  The helmet pattern was originally a baby size so I had to improvise.  The beard is from Melissa Campbell's pattern: etsy.com/shop/TotallyStitching.  It's a free pattern on ravelry.  Want to make everyone in the family one now.

Quilt: Winter wallhanging

 

The flowers for this wallhanging are made out of polar fleece.  I used the pattern I found on purlbee.com/felt-flower-winter-wreath.  Instead of using 4 pieced background fabrics, I used one piece of holiday fabric that I quilted and then attached the flowers.  The pattern used a solid background which I think showed the flowers a little more than mine.

Thanksgiving

Max had his friends over for Thanksgiving.  I made kimchi smashed potatoes, which were great.

Halloween Costume: Spider and the Fly

 
This is Teresa's Spider and the Fly costume on her.  You can't see it in the picture but she's wearing purple spider tights and she has green spider barrettes in her hair.  She has almond shaped eyes and ever since she was very little, it's been hard to get a picture of her that doesn't look like she has her eyes closed.  We had a very nice Halloween and she had a lot of compliments on her costume.

I made these wall hangings in 2006.  I can't find the book they are from but I really like them.  The book suggested making these out of construction paper and then laminating them for fun place mats.

Quilt: Sunbonnet Sam and Sue

 
I finally finished this quilt yesterday.  I won the Sunbonnet Sam and Sue applique pieces about 5 years ago.  I sewed them onto blocks about two years ago.  I sewed the quilt top in the spring and I actually started quilting it a week ago.  I was given the fabric for the back with the Sam and Sue's several years ago and I knew it would be perfect for this quilt.  It was one piece that I broke apart into rows.  This isn't my favorite pattern so I decided I would try to improve my quilting.  Overall I liked how it turned out.

Halloween Costume: Red cell phone

I just made this for my son's friend.  I used two diaper boxes, covered them in batting and then used  red plastic table cloth to cover it all.  Silver duct tape and craft foam finished everything off. The black is actually where you will see his face.

Auction: Do not disturb signs

 
 We always have a problem at our auctions with people coming up to the data entry people and asking, "Did I win?"  I've tried different ways to block them off but there's no real good way.  So this year I'm pasting these signs onto science boards and putting them in front of the data entry people.  So hopefully they will get the hint.  We have a 60's theme this year so I thought blue meanies were appropriate.

Knitting: Octopi

 
Just finished the last octopus last night for my son.  These are from the wonderful book Amigurumi Knits patterns for 20 cute mini knits by Hansi Singh.  She has vegetables, sea creatures, insects, and more.  These octopus are really fun to do and if you want to try to knit something a little unusual, I highly recommend these.  You only work with around 25-40 stitches at a time.  If you've made socks before, these are a breeze.  If you haven't, these are a nice introduction to using double needles without having to do a big project.

Sewing: Damien's skull shirt

 
This is an upcycling project using the raglan shirt pattern from Sewing For Boys 24 Projects to Create a Handmade Wardrobe by Shelly Figueroa and Karen LePage.  This is the third shirt I've done with this pattern.  I made it in the size 2/3 and I increased the collar by 1 1/2" to fit Damien's head.  I lost the picture of the original shirt I made this from.  It was an XL shirt we bought for his older brother that was never worn.  I was able to place the pieces so that the used the hem of the shirt for the front, back, and sleeves.  The great thing about t-shirt fabric is that it doesn't ravel so you don't have to do anything to finish seams if you don't want to.  I want to make this shirt in an adult size as it's so easy and fast to do.

This is another picture that doesn't have to do with crafting but is very cute.  Damien was trying to put on a swim diaper.  He is actually wearing 4 of them, all with his legs through one hole.  He then put on his shirt the same way and his shorts the same way, by that time he couldn't stand up anymore and was upset that nothing was fitting like it should.  He is now deswim diapered and regularly dressed.

Quilt: Spring Wallhanging

I made this quilt in April, 2009.  The pattern is from the book row by row Seasonal Quilts 6 Colorful Designs by Linda Lum DeBono.  I had fun doing it and it definitely uses a lot of fabric.  These quilts work best if you have a lot of fabrics to choose from.  It was also bigger than I thought it would be.

Knitting: Princess Doll

This pattern is from the book Knitted Pirates, Princesses, Witches, Wizards & Fairies with outfits & accessories by Annette Hefford.  She's British and so some of her terms are slightly different than I'm used to but she had some pretty incredible patterns.  I made the pirate doll in it but the picture I have isn't good and I donated it to the kid's school auction.  This doll has bloomers, and underskirt, and over skirt, a bodice, a shirt, a crown, a purse, shoes, and necklace.  It came with a pattern for an over shirt but I didn't make it.  The wigs you make for these dolls are really fun.

Knitting: Star sweater

This picture is from December 2011 but I actually made this sweater in April 2011, he was just too little to wear it at the time.  I used cotton yarn which I hate sewing with because it flakes and makes my nose itchy.  It wears and washes very nicely though.

Bathroom remodel

 
This has nothing to do with my making stuff but here's our new bathroom!  We still have only one but now we aren't going to fall through the floor when we sit on the toilet, yeah!  All the fixtures are brass and the floor is vinyl.  I can't get a really good picture of the shower but it's a plastic laminate that was made to fit our space.  We don't have a tub and we can just walk into the shower.  We are happy with how it turned out.

Halloween Costume: Shark eating kid

I saw a picture of this costume and thought it was hilarious.  Then I thought, I can do that.  Attack my felt pile, don't ask me why I have yardage of grey felt, find some old kids clothes, and viola shark eating kid costume.  Took about 2 hours to make. My son won "Best Costume" at school.  It was funny because they would walk as a class around the gym and he trailed everyone so it looked like he was stalking them.  The feet are on a coat hanger and he was able to move them so that they looked like they were kicking.  October 2006.

Made this for Oscar Halloween 2009.  It's about 6 1/2 feet tall.  Great for sneaking up on people.
